Virtue Campanula medium – calycanthema ‚Cup and Saucer Mix‘ Wonderful mix of colors



Campanula medium, common name Canterbury bells, also known as the bell flower, is an annual or biennial flowering plant of the genus Campanula, belonging to the family Campanulaceae. In floriography, it represents gratitude, or faith and constancy Campanula medium var calycanthema ‚Cup and Saucer Mix‘ is an old variety that hasmercially cultivated since 1889 when Veitch exhibited two varieties. Very distinct from the regular Campanula medium, the variant ‚calcanthema‘ has enormous calyxes that match the colour of the cup-shaped flowers, making the cup look as though it is sitting on a plate. ‘Cup and Saucer Mix†produces large 8cm (3in) flowers on loose racemes from spring to early summer in a wonderful mix of colours: pink, rose, lavender, violet, white, or blue, each large flower is surrounded by a calyx of the same colour as the petals. With bold stalks of big, beautiful bells and up to twenty prolific stems per plant, this is a superb plant for the back of the border. Growing to a height of approximately 75cm and flowering from May to July, it is perfect when grownbination with other tall subjects such as Delphinium and Digitalis. It is an easy plant to grow and loved by bees, it is one that looks stunning anywhere in the garden, they also make excellent pot plants and are superb as a cut flower
